A progressive, international early years and primary school, rooted in Buddhist wisdom and relevant for all
Redefining Buddhist education for children in Asia
Interwoven Curricula
Our curriculum matrix represents an elegant integration of the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage curricula with an innovative Dharma curriculum that infuses the entire school environment with authentic and creative explorations of wisdom and compassion.
Immersive Language
Through Jataka’s language immersion programme, students study bilingually in English and Mandarin, building fluency in another world language.
Natural Space
Our natural, human-scaled campus at the end of a quiet soi off Sukhumvit (BTS Bangchak) along with our emphasis on environmental sustainability, offers a safe space for deep inquiry, affectionate communication, and openness.
Wisdom Traditions
In bringing to life the richness of wisdom traditions from across Asia, we instill in students the reality of dependent arising, rather than of individualism; and the values of responsibility and respect, rather than of merely rights.
Global Network
The Jataka School is part of a growing global network of Buddhist and Buddhist-inspired schools, including those in New York, Bhutan, Singapore, and India.
Our Approach
Jataka’s provides children access to an evidence-based, core curriculum designed to meet curricular learning goals, while at the same time nurturing childrens’ natural curiosity through projects-based explorations.
Our ateliers offer exploratory spaces for students to play, to test, to conduct research, and to wonder.
Our beautiful early years and primary facility provides a grounded, culturally-relevant setting for our students in which to learn and play. This includes vernacular architecture and courtyard-style enclaves with sustainable solutions creatively on-display throughout for students to learn from and be inspired by. Our dedicated learning space also includes: a biodynamic farm and nursery, cooking area, playing field, swimming pool, and outdoor playground.
More than anything, we hope that through these creative explorations into the matrix of universal truths, children will grow to mature into beings who possess the skills to navigate a fast-changing future with dignity and compassion, and who are able to be in the world but not get swayed by it.
Mission
Our mission is to nurture childrens’ natural curiosity so that they may mature into future leaders who value deep inquiry and are equipped with those qualities of mind, heart, and body to engage confidently and compassionately with the world, to remain ever-present and aware, and to hold a sense of ownership over their learning and their lives.
As we grow Jataka’s will:
Graduate Students
who are accomplished in the academic skills one would expect; value deep inquiry, are aware of the limits of perception and responsible for their intentions and their actions; who are present and aware, motivated by altruism, confident to engage with the world, emotionally resilient, truly fluent in a second language (and oftentimes in a third), artists no matter their field, great leaders when they can be, good followers when they should be; and at ease beyond their borders.
Provide Our Team & Adult Community
an educational home to pursue the science and art of teaching, and a special place to thrive because they choose to be a part of our sphere. With an emphasis on equity and inclusion, we want to align the rewards of teaching more closely with the value it brings to society, and provide our team with opportunities to connect, to grow, and to flourish.
Revitalise the Dharma for our society
in order that each and every one of us can distinguish the timeless essence of the teachings from the transient cultures that have supported them, speak articulately about Buddhist history and practices from the perspective of various traditions, marvel at the ordinary and remain inspired by the extraordinary, understand the fundamental Buddhist view, and have a facility in meditation and contemplation, whether or not we choose to practice or to label ourselves as Buddhists.
Set an example of global interdependence
by running an effective, diverse, and sustainable Buddhist school that is doing its part to document, refine, and contribute to a truly international initiative. And by making our discoveries, large and small, available to colleagues in the cause of a wiser education, and a kinder world.
